The Wedding Day

The doors gave way, and she waltzed in like the moon, draped in a whimsical, ivory wedding dress. The crystals and pearls of her statement necklace threatened to outshine her radiant smile. Combined with the cool spring breeze and the mesmerising smell of the flowers, he couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful wedding and bride. As she elegantly made her way to her handsome, teary-eyed groom, she took in the lush, romantic atmosphere, enhanced by the warm pastels and shades of emerald green. It was all she ever wanted; a dreamy and romantic fairytale wedding!

From proposal to engagement to planning, the wedding journey is one of the most beautiful and awe-inspiring things globally. But if one should ask the couple how they accomplished the wedding of their dreams, they’d say something along the lines of “it took some rigorous and meticulous planning to bring our dream wedding to life”. Bottom line? Your wedding day will only be as magnificent as the plan.

 THE PLAN

With the courtship, proposal, and everything- in between out of the way, it was time to plan the wedding itself. Whether it is a small intimate wedding or a big opulent affair, planning takes the cake. It is one thing to imagine the dress, the décor, and the venue, but it is another to bring it to fruition. If planned right, your wedding day will be the most exciting event of your life. But what plan makes the perfect plan? 

Being on the same page

For this couple, there was a lot to put into consideration. First, they had to make sure they were on the same page by discussing and outlining their wedding desires and needs. She always wanted a fairytale wedding with lots of flowers, music and sparkling jewellery. She wanted a grand and fun-filled party, with all her friends, colleagues, and acquaintances in attendance.

He, on the other hand, wanted to celebrate their love in a close-knit and intimate event. Hence, he wanted to exchange rings and vows in the presence of just a few people ─ close relatives and friends. So, he didn’t care much for aesthetics and all the details. 

To accommodate each other’s wish lists, they struck a balance and decided on a fairytale wedding with a medium-scale guest list. He would have easily caved into her wish for an overly glamorous wedding because he loved her so. But she loved him even more and wanted him to enjoy every moment of their wedding; hence she shortened the guest list to appeal to his introverted nature. How beautiful!

 The Wedding Budget

Having decided to hold a glamorous medium-sized wedding, there was the question of the budget. They made a rough estimate of all associated wedding costs and expenses by combing the wedding market (which was no easy feat). Next, they both weighed their financial capacity, including expected financial support from their friends and families. They found a balance between their wedding budget and the estimated wedding cost.

Now budgeting is the bedrock of every wedding and the mastermind of every wedding planning. It is imperative to set a budget that complements wedding plans to avoid disappointments. Prepare the expenses all in advance and ahead of time which allows for meaningful cuts to the total budget to be made. Have a certain extra amount for safety in case of any surprises and costs not considered in the plan. Budgeting lays a smooth sailing road map for the rest of the wedding plans.

Selecting a date and Venue 

Because they both wanted a magical spring wedding, surrounded by a sea of fresh flowers, new blossoms and lush greenery, they unanimously agreed that April would make a glorious spring wedding. What better time to celebrate a memorable beginning than in spring! It rises from the winter’s cold, bringing with it pleasant weather for your special day. With this in mind, they decided to book their chosen wedding location and venue ahead of time. They understood that the date was dependent on the venue.

It is critical to decide the when and the where of the wedding. Date and venues go hand in hand. The choice of a venue is crucial as it determines many factors. Picking a date without considering the venue is very unorganised.  Imagine setting your heart on a particular time of the year, and then there is not a single venue to accommodate your wedding at that time! So play it safe.

Fortunately, they found the picture-perfect location and marquee. And oh, they figured it was going to be an indoor affair because good old “spring isn’t all sunshine and roses”.

Sending out the invitations

Giddy with excitement and anticipation, they couldn’t wait to share the good news with their families and friends. He wanted a personal and traditional approach to the invitation, while she thought there was nothing wrong with going digital. He made the calls and text messages while she came up with the most beautiful invitation card and emailed it to the names on their guest list. Some she sent to the physical address of the invitees. Of course, the digital invitation cards graced each of their social media channels.

This couple handled their wedding invitation professionally as they were sent out 6 to 8 weeks before the wedding for the best attendance possible. Both digital and traditional invitations are magnificent. Traditional because it conveys intimacy and deep respect ─ nobody likes to stumble upon their friend’s wedding on social media. Digital and contemporary because it makes life easier and fast-tracks communication ─ a bulk email will get to a dozen people before a long phone call or message will. In a nutshell, invitations can go both ways, but be sure to reserve phone calls and text messages for those that cherish such personal gestures.

Picking the Wedding Party

With the guest list, date and invitations sorted, it was time to select the wedding party, the bridesmaids and groomsmen. Forever a people person, the bride already had a long list of friends to support her on her big day. However, her husband-to-be had a few friends and acquaintances, which underwhelmed his fiancée’s herd of friends. Again, they sat down and compared lists, added and subtracted, until the number of bridesmaids was equal to the number of groomsmen. That done, she sent out polite proposals to the selected friends, asking them to honour this all-important role.

The wedding party is one of the essential features of a successful wedding. It should include close friends, family and loved ones. Essentially, it should be made up of people who genuinely share the couple’s happiness. 

Colours, Colours, Colours
A fairytale wedding in spring called for vibrant yet warm shades. Shades of candy, pink and warm greens are uncontested, and that was the same colour palette the couple selected. From the cake to the stationary, to the flowers, these colours stood out and stole the scene. It was a spring fantasy come true.

What’s to learn here? The wedding colours should be in tune with the wedding theme. If it is a festival-themed wedding, floral colours will create magic. For seaside and beach-themed weddings, shades of blue, cantaloupe and peach will accentuate the serenity of the sea and illuminate the golden rays of the sun.

 Décor and etcetera

Décor _Though she didn’t know a thing about wedding decors, one thing she knew for sure was that she wanted to walk in an aisle of trees and a blooming archway, enshrouded by the mesmerising scent of roses and magical hanging paper lanterns and garlands. When the interior decorator suggested magical trees, she instantly pictured cherry blossoms, while her groom had a soft spot for wisteria trees. The decorator gave a nod of approval to both trees, opting to make an enchanting aisle of cherry blossoms and a charming wisteria archway.

Mini Cinderella carriages adorned the tables as centrepieces. Fairy lights in large mason jars made the perfect table lighting. In addition to the trees, the decorators sprinkled gorgeous rose petal runners on the aisle so that the bride could walk in a sea of roses. The wedding arch where the happy bride met her beloved groom featured an illuminated lace curtain with a pearl string. The venue was the true depiction of magic land, where a princess pledged her undying love to her handsome prince. In the centre of it, all was a simple makeshift garden doubling as the dance floor.

Cake

There is no denying the charm of a beautifully decorated wedding cake with a delicious flavour to boot. The cake should be in sync with the wedding theme and colour. For this spring fairytale wedding, the square-tiered cake was embellished with exotic sugar flowers and draped in candy hues. A custom “Cinderella and the prince” topper completed the look. Elegant, romantic and tasty it was!

 Food and Drinks
A wedding without great food and drink is in one word “BLAND”. Food and drinks are the soul of any party. When food is plentiful and delicious, guests will have the time of their life. Choose the food according to season and location. For variety, combine comfort foods and elaborate cuisine. Drinks can be fruit punches, shakes, cocktails and soda water. Tableware and drinkware should be just as elegant. Make it pretty, tasty, colourful and memorable.

Wedding favours
Every couple’s wedding favours should be thoughtful and appreciative. Wedding favours should stay true to their name…. a favour! The couple gave out cosy, flower-wrapped wool blankets as favours. It was spring after all, and a blanket was more than needed, not to mention thoughtful and appropriate. Everyone also had shawls to keep warm at the reception ─ this couple certainly stole hearts and left everyone in awe of their thoughtfulness and enchanting spring wedding.

Every other thing will fade with time, but wedding photos retain the emotions that accompany every moment; every smile, laughter, and tears of joy. She looked like she flowed out of a Disney storybook, but with even more panache. The soft luxurious lace fabric sparkled with glistening crystals, while the fitted sequined bodice paired beautifully with the sweetheart neckline. She was “the fairest of them all”, a real-life princess. Her prince charming was equally dashing in an onyx black tuxedo.

The bride’s barely there, yet stunning makeup revealed a natural beauty. The artist’s expression of subtle rose and blush shades was breathtaking. The hairstylist went all out with a sleek and sophisticated bun held together by a crystal-embellished flower hairpin. The look was exquisitely put together and everyone couldn’t help but applaud her beauty team. 

Makeup and hair add an artistic and polished touch to a bride’s look. They help highlight her best facial features making her the centre of attention.  But only the proper beauty styling will achieve a wow effect. So finding the best hands in the game is crucial.

And here comes the star of the show!  There’s just something extraordinary about bridal jewellery that makes one want to weep with appreciation. THE MOMENT

The moment she walked down the floral aisle, hand in her step-father’s, and eyes fixated on her prince charming, was the most awe-inspiring moment of her life. When the doors swung open and revealed the enchanting fairyland that was her wedding venue, she almost ruined her make-up with barely restrained tears. And when she said her wedding vows, under the curtained wedding arch, while all who mattered to her looked on with admiration and pleasure, she couldn’t hold back the tears any longer. It was the best moment of her life.

When the doors revealed his bride, the tears flowed freely; she looked too good to be true. He almost couldn’t believe that she was going to be by his side forever. As she walked, eyes glued to his, nothing else mattered. He became lost in the surreal moment, eager to hold her hand and pledge his unconditional love to her. And when they danced in the garden, shielded by a glowing canopy of flowers, he couldn’t wait to start forever with his lawfully wedded princess.  He never believed in love until he met her.

Everyone attested to the magnificence and romance of the wedding. It unravelled a true love story in the heart of spring.
